. How many times have we been offered clay and Celluloid-type chips as being Ivory. When we ask the seller we are told the box says "IVORY" [color] stamped right on it... or, "It says 'French Ivory' on the box."

When I used to attend the International Ivory Society meetings members would display all sorts of ivory; African, Indian, walruss and so on.

I would get a kick when I would bring my ivory chips, dominos and pool balls to hear the old timers say... "That's stuff isn't that old" where they would be displaying 2,000-3,000-year-old ivory. I knew I was in the wrong place...
