My local post office has speed and efficiency pretty well nailed down. My P.O. Box is #965. If I want to mail my "next door box" neighbor, I simply address the envelope J. Doe P.O. Box #966, drop it in the "local mail only" slot. They truck it to Oakland, CA, some 73 miles away, "for sorting", truck it back and put it in the box next to mine, usually in no more than two days.
I'm not making that up. That is exactly how the operation is handled. I wonder why they call it "snail mail"?
