Last night I found an item on Ebay that I wanted. The only problem was that the seller did not specify the method of payment, so I e-mailed him requesting information. This morning I had not received a reply from the seller, and the end of auction was only a few hours away. I decided to place a bid. Mine was the high bid at that time, but I then received the reply for which I had been waiting. Payment was money order or cashier's check only, not convenient for such a small transaction.
I e-mailed the seller I would be retracting, apologized, then retracted my bid. Then I e-mailed the seller again, further clarifying my reasons. I received a response explaining that he didn't usually take personal checks, but would if I would wait for check to clear before shipment. No problem, especially considering the speed with which checks clear. I then rebid on the item.
I was surprised to find that the seller is a fellow club member (I let my membership be known from the start). All of my previous transactions with members have been with a high level of trust. The lack of trust is a disappointment. Sorry for the long post.
