We were at a flea market in the Chicago area and spotted a junky frame with some old photos in it. As we were walking past it, I noticed that a couple of the photos came from the DI Golf Tournament of Champions...so we looked a little closer. My husband made an offer on just those 2 pieces, if the seller would open it. The seller refused, but sold the whole piece for only $5 more than my husbands offer...so we got the whole thing.
Unfortunately, at some time the frame apparently stood in water and the bottom row of photos is trashed. The seller didn't know much about the piece, but here's what he told us....
1. "The Guy" is in all of the photos
2. "The Guy" supposedly was an owner or executive at the Sands
3. "The Guy" had a daughter who lived in the Chicago area, and the photo collage came from her estate sale.
The Question...Who's "The Guy"...???
exhibit one...the framed piece as we found it
exhibit two...most of the photos came out with the backing, but not all of 'em
exhibit three...one of the pictures in the bottom row was in this picture folder. Unfortunately, all that was left visible in the photo was a bald head/forehead, an eyebrow and an eye that was wearing a pair of glasses.
However, there was a note on the photo holder To Patti, I think your Mom is something So you must be Great... and I can't read the rest. A Signature...??
exhibits four & five appear to be the same evening, different groups of people (other than "The Guy", who is in both pictures)
exhibit six appears to be a much younger version of "The Guy".
exhibits seven, eight & nine were from the DI, at least #8 & #9 were from 1960 (it just kills me that #7 was on the bottom row and was ruined by the water ). Could the couple in #7 be an older version of the couple in #6?
exhibit ten (also from the bottom row...sigh... ) has writing on the back. It appears to say Walter Winchell...Bob Hope ...nershow(maybe?) auctioning off players....Tournament of Cham...Desert Inn...Las Vega... The picture was larger when it was inscribed. It was obviously trimmed for the collage.
Exhibit eleven
exhibit twelve
exhibit thirteen
exhibit fourteen
Any ideas???
My first thought was Jack Entratter...but some website said he was 6'7" tall, and "The Guy" is NOT that tall. My next thought was Carl Cohen, but it didn't look like the picture that I found of him.
I'm clueless, and now I have to go hermetically seal these photos in a plastic bag ('cuz they won't fit in a mayonaise jar), scrub my hands and sanitize the scanner....
