Why Use 12-pocket pages?
In Response To: Now It Begins.... ()

Bill,

I first used heavy duty Cowens 12-pocket pages to store my 2.5"x2.5" cardboard/mylar enclosed chips. Here is why I switched to double row boxes:

o Eventually the pages will sag and also rip at the holes where they attach to the binder. The pages are made for coins, which are lighter than casino chips, and are just not sturdy enough.

o I was constantly reshuffling chips in the pages as I got new chips. I got smarter and began to leave empty pockets on each page, but it was only a matter of time before I had to reshuffle again.

o The chip holders stick to the plastic pages. I learned that you can easily unstick them by inserting a slot card between the holder and the page, both front and back.

o Binders take up more room than the double row boxes. You can get about 180 chips in one double row box and there is no stress on the box at all. The boxes are much easier to handle than binders.

o Don't use binders greater than 1" wide. Any wider and the binder full of chips will become to heavy and cause damage to the binder and the plastic pages.

On the plus side for the binders is that they are nicer than the boxes for showing off your chips.
