Question from Mike Christensen
"What proof do you have for this information? If he was in a vegetative state how could he confirm that the mold was made in 1951?"
Correct, I never spoke to Garison.
My articles and research on the arrowdie was requested by Jim Blanchard.
The article was proof read and a couple corrections were made by Jim, prior to publishing. He had all the Burt records at his disposal as he had started writing a book on the Burt chips at the time. We had a lot of talks about the information I had. We agreed the article was as factual as possible. There was 2 arrowdie chips we could not account for. Pioneer Club and Die Cut Phoenix. If I remember correctly we agreed the Pioneer was made prior to the fire at Burt, I think late 1951. That means it could have been made say June 1951.
Burt was making Die cuts and he had no idea when the Phoenix was made.
I can tell you this. Jim had a list of when all the old molds were made going back to the 1930's.
I am not sure what date that list ended. I do not think the arrowdie was on that list or I would have the info in my article.
All info is based on records search of criss cross directories, phone books, and micro fish searches of Reno and LV newspapers. I have a list of the books and records searched and what was in them 1932-1974.
I am very confortable with my statements.
As far as James book info on Tom Haines and & Frank Dio Dato – Owner Operators of Casino El Rancho Dio Highway 91 and the info about Val Snead. It was a Grand opening ad in 1942. I have a copy of the ad.
I will more than likely shock you with the following.
That ad for Tom Haines was not our Arrowdie Tommy Haines.
There were two Tom-Tommy Haines in LV. Both are in the LV phone book one year only in the 1950's.
Here is the short version:
Our Tommy was from Texas. His daughter contacted me about 2002 in email. Their family now in IL and TX was having a reunion. In a search she found my article. She wanted to know if "Our" Tommy was her father. Their family had not seen nor heard from "their" Tommy since 1950. He had walked out the front door one day with the clothes on his back, leaving a wife and kids. She sent pictures of Tommy/wife/kids. No doubt it was "our" Tommy. Tommy had moved to LV, married a new wife without bothering to divorce or even tell his other family. His daughter was grateful her questions about her father were finally answered.
There is no proof of "our" Tommy in NV prior to 1951 Reno as an employee of Reno Game Supply and then 1952 as a part owner of:
Nevada Club Room Supply
Owners- Haines & Anderson
8 E. California Ave
No criss cross residential address for either one.
I talked to Anderson. Tommy did not have but a small piece of this business at the time. He did not know anything about Tommy prior to 1952.
I can give you a list of all of Tommy's jobs since 1952 to 1974, no proof he was even alive prior to 1951, except from his 1st family.
No chance the Tom Haines credited in James's book for the VS chip is "our" Tommy Haines.
There is no proof the arrowdie was ever made prior to 1951. I am open to any written proof you can provide except people trying to sell chips and speculating on ID's.
