The players were standing around the outside of a sort of circular thingy that was probably about 10-15 feet in diamater (as I recall, it looked kind of like the rail from a craps table...about waist high, not exactly a circle...probably more like a decagon...??). The dealer stood in the middle of the circle and flung the tokens upward, off of the paddle-thing. The tokens flew about 15 feet in the air before landing on the floor in the circle. (The memories may be a little faulty....this was in 1991!) Anyway, it would have been hard for the players to read the "heads" or "tails" writing on the tokens...so I'd guess the "X" was painted on to make it readable for the players.
