Here we've been for the past several years attempting to promote not only our club, but our dream of one day having a museum... which leads me to point out that I've seen very little involvement on the casinos' part regarding this "preservation" mentioned within this thread... and it's not as though there hasn't been a museum or two (or exhibits) on casino property regarding history of the devices we collect. There's been ten times more casino involvement in Europe, alone, where casinos have been exhibiting their historic chips (jetons and plaques) in the reception; rarety, in most cases under lock and key in view of visitors... but, that, too, has had very little effect in arousing interest of those visiting casinos, and there have been elaborate books published tru the years in Europe written in French, English and German depicting World-famous casinos along with their history and depicting their prized pieces (...and I've and others written in UK and Europa collector magazines thru the years)... but very little of those efforts have amassed even the slightest interest upon a European becoming involved in collecting casino chips... and the same here in the USA with all the movies and books written about casinos (which most does involve criminal association). Take the movie "CASINO" for example (yes, we mention it here only because we're collectors): how many people jumped out of their seats after watching the movie to run to the nearest casino to fetch some chips...? My point; no matter how much we (casinos-Hollywood-writers and...) tell others about this history and what's out there to collect, they are not interested unless they get bitten by the bug.
Big example: every one of us has had our fill of Westerns as a kid both in the movies and on TV. Pictures of all those stars [...and hearing their songs] has had very little impact regarding interest of both the history of the Wild West and collecting what all surrounding them. How many of us collect that stuff that's been drummed into our heads as children...?
But it doesn't hurt to try... Who'll be the first casino to plaster our club logo over their front door or print chips telling about us...? I just don't see it happening; and it's been attempted in the past in a big way, too.
I'm simply looking a the big (REAL) picture... Casinos ain't gonna care about us. If they did; every casino in town would have told their visitors about us a few weeks ago.
All we can do as a family is to promote our club as well as we've been doing in hopes of attracting those who are already interested in collecting.
