The first 5c PAL'S CLUB I sold at CCGTCC Auction did $400; listed as "Unknown." I was asked to pull the chip and sell it privately just before the auction started, too. Opening bid was $400 (Howdy's estimate); Arlene Grossblatt yelled out: "Wow...! $400 for an unknown chip?" Number 666 took the chip (Gene's bid, but Arlene's number). grin

Many thought the chip was RENO since everything in the find was Reno area; $5 Harrah's Club, Mapes, TV...

The second find (Iowa) went down as a young man receiving a [salesman's sample case] in early 1950s from his father who found it at a truck stop (archives). Though that case had lots of other Pal's Club denoms, it was loaded with other super-rare metal die-cut chips of which most were private chips and illegal club chips.

The find was split 3-ways, quite evenly. vbg

Those were the days when I used to advertise in 300+ daily/weekly newspapers with a 1-liner wanted ad: "OLD CASINO CHIPS-1-800- --- ----" grin
