Although mine has no hole, the vast majority of brown "The Club" crest and seals have a center hole. The reason for the center hole was simple. The owner needed a way to keep track of his pool scores. He hung a string from the ceiling and strung a bunch of drilled crest & seals.

Maybe the same thing was done with the red Las Vegas Clubs.
