Janesville, WI - Two days before Christmas, the last shift of workers will assemble the last full-sized General Motors sport utility vehicle to roll off the line at the Janesville Assembly Plant.
More than 80 years of GM history in Janesville, years of steel and sweat, will be gone in a flash, unless the factory gains a last-second reprieve, a new lease on life with a new GM product.
All that will remain is a skeleton crew to finish off a small joint venture producing trucks for Isuzu, to watch over a factory that looms like an industrial dinosaur.
