I think people have gotten wiser since I did this scan of the neighborhood in 2007. Testing some utility I use for setting up systems and troubleshooting network connections. I was going to see if anyone had an open router. Bing, Bing, Bing, was I surprised. Red dots (small inset upper left is same data, I was one of the red dots just to the East of Echo6) are locked / password protected, Green dots are unprotected. Location plotted using a GPS on a laptop and driving around in a car with the WiFi snooper running at the same time. Then the data was merged including network ID, overlayed into a vector graphic map, using free USGS aerial maps from the web, and converted to a merged JPG.
