While I don't believe this chips is obsolete per se, I believe that it falls into the category of chips that were made during the height of the poker craze where the casino failed to achieve the traffic necessary (at least in the narrow band of limit games where a $20 chip is useful) to warrant their regular use.
This chip has the "Paulson 23" edge spot pattern that is common on a lot of Atlantic City $20s-- one of my favourite edge spot patterns. I also really like the "Paulson 31" style (which basically has one more separated 1/8" edge spot in the middle of the other two), such as is featured on the 1st issue Bellagio $5 (as well as a host of other chips, but that's what popped in my head first ).
