I have no dog in this fight either way, so don't take this as being either for or against the statements made in that auction. My question to either side is, if the paragraph about the "controversy" hadn't been included, do you think the bidders would have bid so much for the chip?

I ask because I recently saw another CC>CC member's auction for a number of individual President New Yorker chips - chips which are purchased and traded for relatively little over on Chiptalk - go for what I considered crazy high prices, for such common chips. I don't remember seeing anything in particular written on those auctions about the PNYs, because I wasn't looking for text, just at the prices themselves. I guess I just chalked it up at the time as "people will buy anything for any amount on eBay, if they really want it."
