Re: NCR, Printer - Scanner Question...

In general I have found a few things about all in ones -- basically that they do a mediocre job at all the tasks they are assigned. Its an "OK" printer, scanner, copier, etc. But you can't beat the quality of the same device in stand-alone mode. I looked at the specs of the Artisan 800 and they aren't complete other than saying its a 4800dpi scanner. The site doesn't mention the bit-depth, one of the more important features of a scanner (to help you get a true representation of the color) but the Artisan 700 is 48-bit which should be good. hopefully the 800 is the same. You'll need to judge for yourself if its good on "hot" colors. Your currency is not gonna be a problem, but some chips might be.

Here's two other important specs on that printer (I don't know how PC Mag comes up with these numbers)

# Cost Per Page (Mono): 3.1 cents
# Cost Per Page (Color): 12.5 cents

Presumably that entails the paper cost (that would be static across all printers) and the ink cost. It looks like this thing takes 6 different cartridges to print (black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta). Thats about 16-18 a peice (http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/BuyInkResults.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=63075471). Have you checked local availability (Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc)?

But overall this printer gets good recommendations from the various magazine sites.
