Your 'drunk guy' story reminds me...

(Hope you don't mind me piggybacking on this story, but I've been dying to tell this story for months, sorry)

Last year, my husband Michael and I went to Colorado to visit my namesake casino and a few dozen others while we were there. On one leg of the trip, we visited each casino that was open in Central City first, then Black Hawk, if only to go chip (though really, after awhile there, you realize you're just going token) harvesting. One of our last stops for the night was Colorado Central Station, a place we had visited in 1995, well before I even thought of poker, let alone collecting stuff. Anyway, Michael is a big fan of Three Card Poker; and after I was done with playing real poker and harvesting, he sat himself down at a rapidly emptying table to play.

Sitting next to him on his right was the drunkest woman I've ever seen in my life. I honestly don't know how she reminded herself to breathe, she was that drunk. I wouldn't have been surprised if she had dropped trou and did something freaky before my very eyes. Yet somehow she managed to keep placing bets, though her stack kept dwindling down. When she and Michael were the last two players left, we were about to leave, and she begged us to stay (I think it was because leaning on Michael's body was keeping her from falling flat on her face).

She was down to her last two $5 chips, and bet both of them, even though Michael told her that her mid-line bet was wasted since she didn't have the third chip to complete the bet. Since TCP is really just a table game, she was able to show me her cards, as she was so drunk she couldn't tell what she held. She had a pair of queens, so I told Michael, and he loaned her a $5 chip to complete the bet, thereby winning the pair bet plus the ante bet (or whatever it's called in TCP). She tried to give Michael all the money she won, but Michael is an honorable dude, and would only take the $5 back.

Right after that, she spilled her drink all over the floor, and acted rather crazy about it. The floorman came over and told her she was basically too drunk to play, and said it was time to go. She protested and told us she loved us and wanted us to come back to her room with her...we declined...and that we would be best friends forever. Because it was her bedtime, she placed all of her last chips on the bet line, including the third bet, to bet in the dark, as it were.

And just our luck, on the very next hand, she hit a straight flush. 40-to-1 return. Which, if Michael hadn't loaned her the $5, would've been his hand.

I wish I could say that she suddenly sobered up and shared her new-found wealth with us. But really, she decided to pass out cold, and the casino people escorted her away. Ain't karma lovely?
