I've always wondered why the addresses in that block only
go up to about 30. Across First Street, the numbers start
at 100 and 101.
Anderson's book says that the LV Club moved to 18 E. Fremont
in 1951 "on the main floor and back of the Overland Hotel",
that the hotel was at the corner of Main and Fremont and
stayed open till 1977. If that's true, I wonder why the
Overland isn't listed and whether the shops at 2 and 6 E.
were part of the hotel or not.
Does anyone have any idea how large a club such as the Monte Carlo
could possibly have been, with not more than a single storefront's
worth of street frontage? I continue to be amazed at how many clubs
were packed in back then.
Thanks for the info, keep it coming.
