Notice that only the Japanese chip is brass core

The first year, Reliable made bi-metal chips for Hollywood Park. After Reliable closed and sold the process to Chipco, the process was apparently lost and Chipco found they couldn't do the bi-metal chips very well. I think all the bimetals are pretty ugly, myself.

When Matsui began offering a true PMSC chip (plastic molded, slug core) with a brass slug, Hollywood Park returned to something similar to the chip Reliable had made for them. Note that none of the Reliable Hollywood Park chips were true brass cores, even though that's where this type of chip originated thirty years ago.

I have forgotten who made the chip for 1998 and 1999; it could have been the Chipco attempt, or could have been the last gasp from Reliable. Somebody on the bb will probably know.
