Up until a few years ago though it might be hard to believe, the casinos in A/C outgrossed all of Las Vegas put together when it came casino revenue.
I have said for a long time that A/C needed to look for non casino revenue where Las Vegas did far more business, I think it was something like a 4/1 ratio but it hasn't been until the last few years that they have seen the light, perhaps too late.
One has to remember that the wheels of progress work slowly. A/C in its short history has made considerable strides in cleaning up its act. It has however been faced by two main problems that have kept if from being more competitive.
Weather and "shortage" of real estate. There are only a few months of prime time and the shortage or should I say cost of real estate prevents big spectacles lie TI, or lone driveways like Caesar's. Not much eye candy there.
During the summer trying to get a room in A/C was nearly impossible unless you were a player.
In regards to comps, I have to say that imho at least A/C is or should I say was far better than LV when you factor in level of play
Casinos all over the United States have been hurting but unlike many other areas, A/C actually has a better excuse than most.
People say it's the smoking ban but mostly it has been hurt by Pa. and N.Y building its slot parlors thusly siphoning off business.
Instead of the casinos recognizing that pennies make dollars and trying to cater to the bus crowd that and day trippers they have all but chased them out by cutting the few comps they used to give them in the past.
BTW, Children are allowed to cross the casino floor now but obviously aren't allowed to play
