Re: The future of on-line chipping
In Response To: The future of on-line chipping ()

Hi Don,

Classic can still be accessed on a DOS only based machine. If all you have is an IBM XT with a 2400 baud modem, you're still there with the Classic BB'S. The Classic Web Browser is flawed, and I think that's where they were the leader in this technology but gave up trying to keep up once Netscape and Microsoft figured it out. They were the 1st major provider that HAD a web browser.

*PI has online communities, more like internet newsgroups than a BBS. Last time I checked, some were firewalled and others weren't.

Classic, as I understand it, is online through at least the year 2000. There are still enough loyal Classic subscribers who use the BB'S to keep it going without having to advertise it. It might be the only area that Prodigy is still making money BECAUSE they don't advertise it other than on Classic.
