GM doesn't want to stop building Oldsmobiles, they stopped building them in 2004.

Imho GM has been in a steady slide since the 80's starting with an attempt to convert a gasoline powered 350 engine to Diesel. You might remember that was a total failure. Then there was a report of the use of TMC 200 transmissions in full sized cars where they should have had the Hydramatic 400's.
That was followed by the failure of the V8,6,4 which never worked right and last but not least, lets not forget when they were putting Chevy engines in Caddy's and Buicks hence now on your data plate it say that the engine in this vehicle is manufactured by a division of General Motors. That basically means it could be anything.

If you remember the last of the station wagons which aside of grille and trim were all identical, I always wondered why one was paying a hefty premium for a Buick Estate Wagon where most of the body parts were interchangeable with the rest of the GM line. Add to that not knowing what you were getting for a power plant it seemed like a total rip off to me.

Though the Chevy Malibu rates quite high today, I think in general their styling and reliability leaves a lot to be desired.

Obviously that is my opinion and those of you who have GM, Chrysler or Foreign makes that are happy with them all I can say is good. I'm happy with my Fords and have been for years
