I had met this Deputy and his K-9 before. His name was Deputy Matt Williams and the K-9 was "Diogi". What the coward suspect did was sad. He could of fled when he ran into the woods. Instead of continuing to run, he layed up and waited to ambush the deputy when they went and entered the woods.
As for Cale's firing range comment, I think they are well trained. The Deputies that shot the suspect are well trained SWAT. Shooting under stress is different that shooting at the range. The suspect was armed with Matt's duty weapon.
Me and my shift were in Tampa for a class when this happened. Lighterman had dropped me off in Tampa for the class after going on SunCruz the day before. There were 4 Polk County Deputies in that class that immediately left upon hearing the news via pagers to assist as the suspect was not immediately found.
Matt left behind a wife and three children.
