They were durable. When I was 16 or 17, my best friend's folks had one. He borrowed it one night and we went cruising. Ran out of gas about a mile from home. He put it into first gear, and held the ignition key on start. The starter motor (and a good battery) got us and the car home! It was better than pushing it or walking 4 miles for gas!
