BTW, from your post you state that Allstate did cover your chips but then decided not to. That would lead one to believe that coverage of chips is subject to each company interpretion of its policy. The issue is not black and white.
I would bet that some companies will cover for no extra charge to the its contents limits. Of course you have to do a bit of homework and find such companies.
I work for the NYS Ins. Dept. I would definitely make sure the company pays if the company's liability is ambiguous. Any ambiguity should fall in the policyholder's favor.
