John, just a wild guess...and you may have checked this possibility already...

Back in the 30's, when Hollywood studios owned their own theatre chains, there were numerous "Paramount" movie theatres. Would the "talkies" have had a 5 cent admission back then? If this is plausible, maybe the answer to who/what "Coonies" is could be found through a movie history & memorabilia site or research?
