the nikon D40 is 100.00 cheaper than the D40x and 200. cheaper than the D60 and IMHO the D40 is a much better camera and here is why.....
you can flash sync the D40 at 1/500 compared to just 1/200 on the D60 which means better daylight fill-flash range. Also the sensor in the D40 is twice as light sensitive than the D60......and the extra light sensitivity in normal use will help make sharper pictures. Save your money and get the D40 instead and use the 200.00 savings to buy another lens like the 55-200 (I believe its 200 bucks for that lens, maybe less) as was mentioned or spend 125. bucks and get the sb-400 flash that you can bounce.
