Did you have a specific question? Linux comes in several "flavors" - I use Ubuntu Linux - it is free and easy to install and keep updated. Free applications to do most routine tasks are included in the distribution. The ad you show doesn't specify which version of Linux is loaded on the laptop but they all work pretty much the same. The desk top isn't all that much different than Windows - the word processor, spreadsheet and web browsers work pretty much the same way - except for some of the add-ons to the browser - like the Flash programs and Adobe PDF readers. Some things just don't work as well. For example Ubuntu has a PDF reader but it will not work with the Illegal Club Records that David and Gene have put up because they have disabled "copying" and I have no way to turn it off on my software.
If all you want to do is email and web browsing it should work just fine. However, if you use a digital camera and want to download photos using the software from the camera maker it probably will not work - unless you want to take some computer classes...... Also, to play poker on Poker Stars you have to dowload and install additional software (Wine).
