Re: NCR: Jack Dempsey's restaurant in NYC
Some great stuff Bob. Many years ago in the 60's I think, my Father in Law worked there as a chef. I wish in those days I (or for that matter he) were smart enough to keep some of this memorabilia.
Unfortunately, he is gone now but to say he was a colorful character would be an understatement. He loved playing the horses, and drinking his beer and he could always pick the winner of the horse race right after it was over LOL.
I do have to say though he was really good at his craft and was always in demand but what hurt him, was he had a bad temper.
As a result he ran the entire NYC restaurant circuit forwards and backwards working at many of the same places more than once. Lindy's Luchow's, Dallas Cowboy, Christos, Latin Quarter and I think the Copa also though not sure....... I can't even remember a fraction of the places.
What was really funny is that when income tax time rolled around, he would have to wait until the last minute never knowing if another W-2 would roll in.
He's gone but this stuff brings back some memories. Thanks for posting it
