Nothing lasts forever
The history of the northeast textile mills is an example. From about 1915 through 1930 an exodus of textile mills from New England to the south left many cities desperate. This exodus coupled with the depression was extremely hard on locals. Some cities never recovered, for those that did it took 50-75 years. Strange I never heard of any government bailout then??? I feel bad for the people in GA or anywhere that are losing their jobs but I feel this goes deeper than the current Wall street crisis i.e., changing market, shift to foriegn labor and less demand for carpet. We have known for decades that we are moving from a manufacturing country to a service oriented country. I fear we will see a lot more of this. MHO
