I watched all the previous debates but last night I had a choice to make. Watch the debate or take a nap. I chose the latter.
I came to the conclusion that
1- My mind was made up who I was voting for anyway
2- The debate was only an exercise of who did their homework the night before
3- I had already heard all the campaign promises from both sides
4- Being an elequent speaker (Yes, I certainly think Obama is) is not a measure one way or the other of whether one will be a good president.
Anyway, personally I have always maintained that each American as a prerequisite to voting should at least be able to demonstrate that he knows WHO the candidates are and a bit about the issues.
If you want to take my comments as racist feel free. If you want to read something into them that doesn't exist, feel free to do that too. The main thing is (I) know what I mean by them.
There was a report of an elderly black woman in excess of 100 years of age signing up to vote for the first time.
Gee, I wonder what motivated her. I wonder if she is voting for McCain.
Here in the East where I live blacks are registering in droves to vote for the first time.
Tell me they are all signing up becasue McCain has impressed the hell out of them. Tell me that it isn't racial.
You know what I would like to see. Someone like a Colin Powell run against the likes of Obama. What chance do you think he would have to win in that race?
Personally I was disappointed when he didn't run when he had the chance.
Me, I'm voting for McCain but part of me would like to see Obama win. If for nothing else, as I have said before to show that there is no quick fix to the problems that presently ail this country.
The war will continue (unfortunately) Gas prices will once again rise, and the country will remain in an economic crises for some time to come yet.
But hey, if there is no quick fix, we can always blame the previous administration
