they did filming in wendover, where the plane "lands in Death Valley"..they also got the implosion of the Sands delayed until done filming. They actually blew up the front of he Sands for the film. They used a 250 foot track to pull the plane to within 50 feet of the front of the building. The plane was completely gutted to make it as light as possible
