Neither side seems to want to talk about the issues as much as they want to sling mud and catch each other saying or doing something embarrassing. Of course the news media has fed this disintegration of debate with a fervor. We really don't have "news" media anymore, they're all so focused on ratings and what sensational story will gain them the most viewers for the next half-hour that reporting on issues has gone out the window.
