I usually use everything possible that the USPS has to offer (usually on display) for safe shipping; right down to their tape... and I ask them to sign their name along with bumping their signature if they in any way helped package the item at the counter.

It wouldn't hurt to take a picture of the packaged item as it sits on the counter, either (which I've never done).
