It is true that usually our 125+ mph winds are gusts, but those gusts are usually in 85+ mph sustained winds with 8" of rain per hour along with it, lasting for 3 days, usually. Sometimes as much as 5 days, but on occasion, very rarely we get one that is only 24 hours. Doesn't even hardly seem like a storm when it is that short. Since we are at sea level, the high seas can be controlled here better than NO. Perhaps that is the main difference, since they are below sea level. Just the wind and rain shouldn't be a problem though. Especially if this seems to happen EVERY YEAR!!!!! Aren't there building codes there? I know we have them here. Just assumed everyone did, I guess. Those winds don't blow houses apart here like they evidently do there.
I was just curious why they seem to have so much trouble with these storms, especially since they seem to happen all the time.
Again, I am not trying to be mean--just couldn't understand why so much hub-bub about some wind and rain.
