I don't think any of us know for sure, Rich, but I will give you
all of the info that I have.
The brown and green chips were made by USPC in Cincy in 1928.
The order was shipped to E.T. Fians in Chicago. As we know,
most illegal chips were usually not shipped to the club or
even the city of the club. Chicago is about 300 miles from Evansville, IN,
which lies on the Ohio River, across from Henderson, KY.
In the book, "U.S.A. Confidential, by Jack Lait & Lee Mortimer,
and published by Crown Publishers, Inc. in NYC in 1952, quoting:
"Many county nightspots lie along US 41, between Evansville & Henderson, in what is known as "The Strip." Officers of both states leave it alone.
Big clubs along "The Strip" usually have dozens of slot, big dice tables, roulette, blackjack, chuck-a-luck and beat-the-dealer. The biggest clubs
are The Trocadero, The Dells, Riverview Gardens, Commando, Kentucky Tavern
and Midway Club."
I found a few pairs of The Dells Club dice at the Ky. State Fairgrounds
flea market a few years ago. These Evansville clubs were run by the
Cleveland and Chicago syndicates.
Until someone can prove elsewhere or come up with another "The Dells Club",
these chips will remain in my Indiana illegal album.
