Our neighbor's son had his car totaled by a driver that had crossed the center line and hit him nearly head on. Everyone was OK other than some bruises and some tweaked muscles but the driver that caused the wreck had no car insurance. Our neighbors only carried liability on their car since it was an older Accord and their son was a teenager.

To make a long story short they bought a used Civic for their son out of pocket because he needed a car and they had to hire an attorney and take the guy to court. What it has boiled down to is you the guy has no money and "you can't get blood out of a turnip!" They have spent between $6,000 and $7,000 AND they have been to court several times now so consider yourself lucky you're only out $100.
