Inexpensive laptop with XP: Yes, still possible, at least for a little while longer. Vista is not as bad as you've heard, but my first suggestion would be to look at dell outlet store. Its for returned/cancelled/refurbed items. Usually pretty good deals and you have the ability to filter with things like screen size, price, and operating systems.

Domain: well depends on what you want to do. At a minimum you get the rights to the domain, and you can set up your own email (such as ralphie@ralphsdomain.com as long as the domain is available. You'll need to park it somewhere to let them process the email, potentially a place for webspace as well. Thats free, or a minimal charge unless you want to purchase bandwidth for hosting files/videos/websites/ecommerce engines/etc. The domain itself is $7-20 a year.
