Just think(for the most part) that it is a convenient way for some sellers to get more money from paying customers,not to mention that it is a great excuse to use if something goes wrong.
I will definitely ask for a signed delivery(with insurance)if the item is expensive. I will also ask, if the person I am dealing with is not another club member or an eBay member with a proven track record. Basically I am a trusting kind of guy.
Other than that....nah....I don't care about the duty part that much anymore.Part of doing business.
