I think it is a good thing to at least educate the members on what shill bidding is and the warning signs of shill bidding, though. Here are a few things that raise my eyebrow a little, but with a lot of caveats:
1) I do not believe 2nd chance offers alone are not indicitive of shill bidding, the seller may have a few of the same item and is willing to sell it at your price.
2) The auction has bidder(s) that have zero or little feedback bidding. Again it may be a new ebay member, but if they are buying expensive, you have to wonder why.
3) The auction has a bidder that only bids on certain sellers items and not others. Though I think most shillers are aware of now. Also since ebay hides the id's it is harder to spot this.
4) With multiple auctions of the same chip (similar conditon), there is a great price disparity. Although, keep in mind that many search on favorite sellers, so this may or may not mean anything.
5) Sale of a supposedly rare chip was sold, then is listed again by the same seller. Again, this may mean the sale didn't go through (although you can check the feedback) or the seller had more than one of the chips, but if the pic is identical that my be a give away. Or there was a find (chip is not as rare as though) and the seller has more than one of the chip.
These are few things that raise flags, in my opinion. On a stand along basis , any one of the above, may or may not be shill bidding. I do get suspicious of an auction if 2 or more of the above set in. Also, I should note that I haven't suspected any auctions of shill bidding in a long time. I wonder why?
