will be right. But my assessment of the Iraq excursion from the beginning was this:

The Al-Quaeda bunch are religious fanatics; Sadam Hussein and his Baath party are secularists. They are the antithesis of each other. Bringing down the secularists will allow the reliious fanatics to get a foothold and this is exactly what happened.

Second, our nemesis in the region is Iran, controlled by the Shiia sect of Islam. Iraq was controlled by Sunni, although the majority of the population was Shiia. Bring down the Sunni in Iraq, allowing the Shiia to take over, and there will be two countries, naturally allied by religion, for us to deal with.

This has come to pass and I have to wonder why Bush and his State Department were not able to see this at the time??
