As I read down the long thread list, I see names of Greg's chip buddies from many years ago--Archie Black, Jim Follis, Neal Silverman, Andy, and many others. I still recall with fondness the day, about 16 years ago, when Greg bounded upstairs from his office in the basement to tell me there's a whole club out there for collecting chips! Wow! Another hobby for him to immerse himself in! (grin)
For those of you who know Greg well, you know he does things with gusto. From the time we were married, he's had a lot of hobbies, from photography to coin collecting to building radio aircraft, and lots more in between. Always he's poured through books or, nowadays, researched the Internet to learn as much as he can about his pastimes. But none has brought him the pleasure and satisfaction or stuck with him as long as his chip collecting, and I believe this is due to his participation in the club and the many great friends he's found in the CCGTCC.
Please know that Greg and I are grateful and moved by the tremendous response all of you have given him and our family with this news of cancer. It is indeed comforting to know that we have such terrific moral support and continued prayers for his recovery.
Tomorrow we see the oncologist to learn how extensive the disease is and to learn more about how we're going to battle it. Greg's dealing with it well, though I think we're both understandably anxious about the full diagnosis and prognosis. While his GP and surgeon haven't told him to get his affairs in order (maybe they're saving that for the oncologist!), neither have they said this is curable. It's the fear of the unknown that's most troubling today, especially as we approach the appointment time tomorrow.
In the meantime, we take comfort in learning from the Mayo Clinic web site that great strides have been made in his type of cancer in recent years and from all the heartfelt sentiments and prayers from each of you. Thank you for your friendship to Greg and us. I hope the benefit auction for the Jimmy V Foundation in Greg and the club's names goes well. Everyone's a winner!
Fondly, Carol, Lauren and Robert Susong
