Here's a postcard of the SS Rex Club, as well as a photo of the infamous Joe W. Brown. Joe must have done well during the time he was the "caretaker" for the Horseshoe, as Moe Dalitz, one of the famous Las Vegas 'Moes', arranged for Joe to sell a parcel of land to the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is now located on Joe W. Brown Drive. Prior to Benny transferring ownership to him, Joe was just a small time former bootlegger and hood in the New Orleans area, and ran an illegal casino called the Hi-li (or Jai Alai) in the New Orleans suburb of Arabi, home to many illegal casinos. (See Ed Hertel's catalog) Benny thought he could trust Joe. Benny was wrong, and it cost him a pile. BTW - There is even a Joe W. Brown Memorial Park in New Orleans. Would you buy a used car from Joe W. Brown, let alone trust him with your casino for four years?
