I agree that there will be critics of the next president whomever that is, whatever he does, and sadly some will be critical nt because of what they say or do, but because they aren't from the group they critic likes (rep/dem etc). While I have views on the major issues of the day, I am not so sure that good or bad presidents are based upon the views they have on these issues. Presidents are faced with issues and events that only another President can fully appreciate, and the characteristics that will make them a good president is how well they handle those issues and events. Yes we want intelligence, the ability to listen, and absorb new info, empathy, respect, the ability to read others (especially other leaders), the ability to surround themselves withqualities advisors and cabinet members. The ability to lead without micromanaging. The ability to fire up the populace in a mutually beneficial cause. And as a lawyer, the abilty to weigh all aspects of Justice.
I was not a supporter of Bush (workd for McCain in 2000), I had certain concerns which I felt had begun to come to fruition in 04, and now are prevalent. I had similar concerns about Hillary Clinton (especially the concern that either would do whatever it took to win/get their way). But I try to keep my criticisms fact based and on issue. Many complain just because he isn't their guy-I hated this abut Illinois politics. I knew a woman who was involved in a Govenor's race, andshe cared only about Party, and regarded me as naive and even silly, that i cared about the issues, and tried to judge the character of the candidate. She thinks Lincoln is overrated, why? Because he was a republican (that is her line, and it saddens me that folks take that view.
Whomever wins the next election, I will pray for the best, and try to give them time to do something before griping.
