Cleaning of circulated chips having cross-hatching is fairly easy to detect as the broken cross-hatching close to the edge is the part of the chip that receives the wear first. Cleaning is a bit harder to detect on most CIC chips. Cleaning does not improve grade... but does improve upon a cleaner-looking appearance.
