Charles, for what it's worth...
In Response To: Re: Same chip for a Buck 89 grin ()

I suspect that you were not aware, but that chip fits the general criteria to be called a Fantasy Chip. It is of recent manufacture and it was purposesly made to be similar to the Dunes Golf Course issue. While it has the open/close dates of the Dunes and identifies itself as a "Commemorative" meaning that it commemorates or pays tribute to the Dunes, that is a fairly good indication that it might NOT be a real casino chip.

Perhaps what complicated your ability to recognize it as a fantasy chip, was the mold. Unfortunately (in my opinion) the owners of the actual Dunes chip molds were asked to use those molds in the manufacture of these chips and said permission was given! If I am not mistaken, the molds, which were being held by GPI (Paul-Son) were moved to Blue Chip (BCC) and used to produce a large quantity of these chips, in several denominations and are sold principaly as home game sets. However, there are some fringe sellers that offer these and other fantasy chips with copy that is very similar to what you put up on eBay.

There are 10's of 1,000's of these chips out in the market place and I am certain that your listing will not be the last one to mistakenly give the appearance that these chips are anything other than fanatsy chips with a value of less than a dollar. While these particular fantasy chips are yet to be included on the Club's "Fakes, Fantasys and Counterfeits" webpages, I'm sure they will be at some future point in time.

For future reference, here then is the complete set of fantasy Dunes chips that used the original "Dunes" house mold.

And for the record, I believe that ccgtcc member or not, chips like these (when offered For Sale) should always be noted as non-casino issued or simply as Fantasy chips. If initially offered without that knowledge, I can understand it. However, if appraised afterwards or during an auction, then it should be noted as soon as possible.
