I have to say that despite the situation, watching an air tanker drop a salvo of fire retardant on a raging inferno is a unique sight. I work for Forest Protection in Alberta (not as a fire fighter though), and just seeing those big birds fly is amazing.

It doesn't take much for a fire to take off, so keep your eyes on the horizon.
