It was a backup chip and never used in regular play.
They used them in some tournament and a couple accidently got out and mixed in with the regular rack.
(drink tips was one theory)
My guess is that was about 1982 when it happened.

From what I understand, there is 5 or less in collectors hand.
One sold in an auction several years ago and fetched over $2000.
