Guess you need a new dictionary, Allan!

Here's how "The Concise Oxford Dictionary," Ninth Edition, defines "serif":

"a slight projection finishing off a stroke of a letter as in T contrasted with T."

Now that doesn't make as much sense since I can't mix fonts here as they do in the dictionary, but the font I see on my screen on this board is serif type.
