Re: Those motorized scooters are unsafe indoors ..

I am responding because I believe it tobean intelligent discussion (and you address in a respectful manner), but for alol thse that will inevitably say, what does this have to do with chippin?, I will only be able to muster a weak response at the end. grin

I find that I agree with you and disagree with you, wierdly, at some times, on the same point. I do not think we need more spaces, we do need to enforce the laws related to these spaces. They are not unloading zones, quick parks for police officers, outside display areas, amd most importantly the cards/special plates are for use only when the intended individual is in the car.

There are a number of stores that now have low power scooters in their stores for the benefit of customers. I see no need to linit or interfere with these. Stores have ably evaluated the need for them vs the limitations, they are designed to go at a very slow speed. While a person may not qualify for a plate or placard, there may be times when it helps a person in that grey area.

I d have a placard, but do not use a scooter at home. But as a result my mobility range is severely limited. It has now began t effect my occupational opportunities, so I have begun the process of convincing the heath providers is is necessary. They put a very high standard on whether it is necessary. That standard applied to anyone who wanted to use one would be to extreme.

I use one in Vegas because it allows me to enjoy the strip as easily as anybody else, but it places on me the user certain responsibilities. I am more than a little upset when I see folks operate them in a reckless manner, or in a manner where they clearly pay no attention to the folks around them. But in fairness, some of you walking stiffs need your butts kicked, prefereably by a crazed group of old women (monty Python reference).

The maximum speeds are more than enough on the scooters, and arguably they should be reduced in scooters destined for environs like the strip. But the question of mandating a permit to use them seems to be excessive. If 0only because the grey area is so large. But I do think that folks caught using them in a reckless manner should be dealt with. For the record, I haven't seen anything about the woman in AC which was reckless, nor any indication that she didn't legitimately need a scooter.

Thee CCGTCC in setting up the Bourse floor does an excellent job of providing adequate space between the rows of tables, and at the end of aisles for access and turning around. I am also pleased that my fellow club members pay attention to what is going on around them, especially with all the cool chips to look at. They have always been courteous to me, and I like to think I have been the same. In the end we have gotten along and all enjoyed our trip.
