I know the letters. Post a few that looks hard and try to stump me.
Most of the people call this lettering by the wrong name. I do also and probably will continue for the rest of my life. Sometimes I feel like calling them by their right name but I know most people will not know what I am talking about. What is displayed on the chips you posted is called a Cipher even though most of us call them a Monogram. By far Monograms are rare in logo design.
Here is a paragraph from The Complete book of Monograms and Ciphers.
“Before proceeding further I should state the difference between a Monogram and a Cipher. This is necessary, as the two devices are constantly being miscalled; some authorities too, while correctly describing a Monogram, give a Cipher for illustration. A Monogram is a combination of two or more letters, in which one letter forms part of another and can not be separated from the whole. A Cipher is merely an interlacing or placing together of two or more letters, being in no way dependent for there parts on the other of the letters.
